Lynn Oppenheim presents CBO's Needed: Effective Strategies for Tomorrow's World with Guilbert Brown, George Mason University.

Recent research in organizational behavior and design has yielded significant new insights into optimal approaches to effectively developing and implementing strategic plans and initiatives. This session highlights resulting tools and perspectives applicable to modern strategic planning, including institutional propulsion (moving quickly from strategy to action), building coalescence around institutional goals, leading leaders, employing opportunity filters to differentiate among competing initiatives, applying "design-build" strategies to simultaneously develop and implement initiatives, and witnessing the future state of the institution - what the future will be like - if the plan succeeds. Two successful case studies illustrate the practical application of these strategies.
